From Gerben.Wierda at rna.nl Thu Dec 7 21:26:48 2006 From: Gerben.Wierda at rna.nl (Gerben Wierda) Date: Thu Dec 7 21:27:00 2006 Subject: [Ii2-announce] TeX (TeX Live) i-Package updated (*EXPERIMENTAL i-Directory) Message-ID: <8D36C3AC-0C50-4ADF-A6FB-799D94F14B6C@rna.nl> The Dec 7 release contains: ? TL2006REVISION=2572# 2006/12/01 22:00 ? Missing tex4ht support files added to the main texmf tree (texmf.texlive) ? Added doc/latex/{graphics,base} to the main texmf tree (texmf.texlive) ? Support for /Library/TeX/Distributions setup. From now on using / usr/texbin for your path to the TeX binaries is stable. The same is true for /Library/TeX/Distrbutions/Default/Man for man pages, / Library/TeX/Documentation for all the documentation in your texmf.trees. Switching between different TeX distribution is easy: only the /Library/TeX/Distributions/Default needs to be set to an existing .texdist bundle which contains information on the TeX distribution and where it resides. See /Library/TeX/TeXDist- description.rtf for details. ? i-Package contains new setloginpath and setmanpath scripts with a new interface. ? Fixed a buglet where changed languages did not force a recompile of formats The short info on the new distributions setup is: use /usr/texbin as te PATH for your TeX setup in TeXShop from now on, iTeXMac or whatever frontend you use. It points to the active distribution used. If you have TeX Live 2005 installed, switch from an installed gwTeX to an installed TeX Live 2005 as follows: sudo rm /Library/TeX/Distributions/Default sudo ln -s TeXLive-2005-Relative.texdist /Library/TeX/Distributions/ Default After this, both comand line and frontend (if it uses /usr/texbin) will use TeX Live 2005 (system wide) G PS. It has taken a while as I experienced a lot of apparent instabilities in creating the setup for choosing easily between different TeX distributions. It turns out the instability was an OS X bug and the problem was specific to the testing procedure used. The actual solution was fine all along. PPS. If you have still outstanding problems and wishes, now is the time to mention them (off list, please) to me From Gerben.Wierda at rna.nl Fri Dec 22 01:29:02 2006 From: Gerben.Wierda at rna.nl (Gerben Wierda) Date: Fri Dec 22 01:29:10 2006 Subject: [Ii2-announce] New i-Package releases (TeX & TeX Support) Message-ID: <80DA001F-BB35-4543-A308-2289E115EEF3@rna.nl> People, - The TeX i-Package (gwTeX 2003-2005 based in part on teTeX, tex.ii2) has been updated with warnings that it is deprecated - The TeX i-Package (gwTeX based on a TeX Live subset, texlive.ii2) has been updated: - Switching between available TeX distributions via a Preference Pane in System Preferences (thanks to J?r?me Laurens). TeX Live 2004, 2005 and 2006 in default install setups included (that is: install TeX Live from the ISO image and the Preference Pane will be able to switch to it) - /usr/texbin is the directory that you can use to access the current system-wide distribution. No need to change frontend settings when you switch between distributions - The texdist command is available as a cli interface to the distributions (have a look at texdist --usage) - Updated version of texmf tree and binaries (TeX Live 2006 near the final release) - The CB-Greek, CM-SUper, MusixTeX, TeXGyre and ConTeXt Updater TeX Suport i-Packages have been updated to work with changes in the TeX i- Packages. All users of the old gwTeX i-Package, partly based on teTeX are asked to change to the new gwTeX i-Package that is based on TeX Live. Preferably, uninstall the former TeX i-package (tex.ii2). After changing, the TeX Suport can be reinstalled. Please reset the i- Packages to default properties after opening en before installing. On Jan 1 2007, email support ends. It is important that you all give the current setup as much use as possible to enable me to make as many fixes and improvements as possible (I expect there to be some, given the time constraints). Please set i-Installer's log level to 4 before installation and when there are problems, send me the report. During this period the i-Package may be blocked for an extended period because I am investigating reported problems. It fixes a few bugs and is based on a release candidate of TeX Live 2006 and contains pdfTeX 1.40, missing documentation, etc. Thanks to all who reported over the last weeks. I have also changed the display names of a few i-Packages texlive.ii2 = gwTeX based on TeX Live tex.ii2 = DEPRECATED gwTeX based on teTeX and TeX Live All "TeX Support:" i-Packages are now named "gwTeX Support:" Reports (preferably with i-Installer at log level 6) are welcome. Let me restate here what I have announced earlier about support: Per 1/1/12007 I will be ending e-mail support for i-Installer and my i- Packages. Before that I will do some final release work. After that date, updates will only be available if I need them for my private use. At least one i-Package will be updated regularly: the ConTeXt updater, because this update is done automatically. If someone (or more than one) wants to take up maintenance of i- Installer and the i-Packges, I will help him/her/them to get started. Required skills: perl/make/sh and Cocoa. G
